Matt Helders has revealed his penchant for jet skiing.

The Arctic Monkeys drummer took part in a track by track album playback along with frontman Alex Turner where they discussed the band's seventh studio album The Car.

When Radio X's John Kennedy quizzed Alex Turner on the inspiration of track number four, Jet Skis On The Moat, Helders joked: "Can we just clear this up? You've never ridden a jet ski on a moat?"

The frontman replied: "Or on a not moat."

Helders chipped in: "Well I can speak for those of us that have. It's a great time".

When John Kennedy asked the sticksman to confirm if he'd taken part in the hobby, he confirmed: "I love set skis."

Asked if he had a favourite location for his pursuit, he added: "Don't know if I've got a favourite, but most recently I did it in Miami."

When the Radio X presenter suggested Alex Turner was living the jet ski lifestyle through Matt Helders, the drummer joked: "He just watches and then writes it down."

Arctic Monkeys also talked about album opener There'd Better Be A Mirrorball, and explained why its intro kicked off the whole album.

That was the first thing that was written for the record that I really had the feeling was worth following," revealed the frontman.

"It feels like a theme or something," he continued. "Then the discussion became, I suppose, how to wrangle that into a pop song, which I think by the end of the song, it feels as if you've arrived in that territory."

He added: "Everything else on the album had to be able to hang out with Mirrorball. That was that."
