Arctic Monkeys over The Car en hun geheime Spotify-playlist | 3FM Exclusive | NPO 3FM
Alex Turner and Matt Helders have revealed some more secrets about their forthcoming album The Car...
In a new interview, Arctic Monkeys claim that one of the tracks on their forthcoming album The Car harks back to the "desertier" sound of the classic 2013 LP, AM.
Talking to Vera Siemons on Dutch radio station 3FM, Alex Turner and Matt Helders discussed the third track on the album, Sculptures Of Anything Goes.
"I don't think we've been to that place before, sonically," revealed Turner. "That does remind me a little bit of some of the 'desertier' side of the AM record, from 2013. It feel likes there's still a bit of that dust in there.
"Jamie [Cook] got a Moog synthesiser and put a drum machine through it and made that sound - and we wrote a song based off that, really. It started there and became a million other things, but ended up back where it started... having had a haircut."
Asked to name the ideal moment when the band felt that an album was complete, the pair admitted that listening to the finished LP in a car was always "a good test" - maybe a clue to the meaning of the new album's title?
Alex: "I remember with AM, the car was always let's make this one..." Matt: "...sound good in cars."
Alex added: "It needs to 'knock' or something. Remarkably, I don't know if I've ever listened to this one in a car. Go figure."
Turner went on: "It took us a lot longer to get to the end point than any of the others. I guess because we had a bit more time. And maybe the longer you go on, the longer you want to let yourself make adjustments. Perhaps all that got a bit silly at the end... in that respect. We tried."
Arctic Monkeys' The Car is released on Friday 21st October 2022.
The band are set to play a string of dates in the UK and Ireland next summer.
