My Chemical Romance have said their longest-serving drummer Bob Bryar has died aged 44.

A spokesperson said on Sunday: "The band asks for your patience and understanding as they process the news of Bob's passing."

It gave no details on how he died.

Bryar played on 2006 album The Black Parade, the concept record that made them a posterchild for the 'emo' rock genre - even though the band rejected the label.

The Chicago-born musician replaced Matt Pelissier in 2004 and left in 2010, and The Black Parade is the only studio album he features on.

He later left the music business and started a new career as an estate agent. The US band never appointed a full-time replacement and split in 2013.

However, a greatest hits album followed a year later and a global tour - severely delayed by the pandemic - took place in 2022 and 2023.

Last month, the band announced an 11-date North American tour for 2025 that will feature The Black Parade played in its entirety.

TMZ was the first media outlet to announce his death, saying that Bryar was found dead in his Tennessee home on Tuesday after last being seen alive on 4 November.

It said no foul play was suspected.
