Here’s everything you need to know about when to get the best Black Friday deals and more.
Black Friday has been a huge tradition in the United States, and now it appears to be a regular fixture on the British calendar.
When is Black Friday?
Black Friday 2018 takes place on Friday 23 November, the day after Thanksgiving takes place in the United States.
What is Black Friday?
The term only began being used in the 21st Century, but American retailers have known since the 1950s that the Friday following Thanksgiving was when consumers started to think about their Christmas shopping in earnest. Some states have the day after Thanksgiving as a public holiday, leading to retailers opening early to offer the best deals for early shoppers. In the UK, Black Friday has gained momentum in the past decade, as many retailers line up with activity in the US.
Why is it called Black Friday?
Originally, the American retailers gave it the name because of the inevitable traffic chaos that plagued shopping centres, but in more recent years it was named that way because it meant most shops found themselves making a profit, meaning their books were “in the black”, rather than “in the red”, ie making a loss.
What Time Does Black Friday Start?
Most online retailers will launch their Black Friday deals on the stroke of midnight on 23 November, with many retailers opening early for the keenest shoppers.
Where Are The Best Deals To Be Found?
Amazon go pretty hard on best deals for Black Friday, while other retailers taking part include John Lewis, Argos, Currys PCWorld, Halfords, Superdrug and many more.
When is Cyber Monday?
The online follow-up to Black Friday is Cyber Monday, which takes place on Monday 26 November 2018. This is the day that most people place their orders for Christmas via internet shopping.
